Dinner with Teresa

Yesterday started out as a typical Wednesday, except for me waking up later than usual because I’d had trouble sleeping the night before. I haunted AI Friedman for a bit, dithering over whether to buy the Color Mixing Bible (ooh, it’s enough cheaper on Amazon that I think I’d save money even with the shipping fee), then met Kevin at Cosmic Comics (Girls Genius #6, Promethea #21, Petey & Pussy #1, Lone Wolf & Cub vol. 22, and the Sidekicks TPB collection), had Chinese food (Kabab King being closed for renovation), then off to Tor to do NYRSF stuff. There wasn’t all that much to do for NYRSF (we were already done by the time Josh showed up), so we hung out for a while chatting with Teresa.

As we were getting ready to go, Teresa discovered that she’d forgotten her house keys at home, and Patrick was going to be out late, so she and I strolled through Manhattan, then headed off to Park Slope for Mexican food, all the while talking about what’s going on in our lives, and shyness, and botanical taxonomy, and how an episode of Invader Zim (the one with the giant hamster) recapitulates an old Keith Giffen Ambush Bug (the one with the giant koala), and how she really needs to read all of Grant Morrison’s JLA and New X-Men work, and how many people have their own internal Batman, and the differences between various kinds of Mexican cuisine. Teresa’s one of my all-time favorite people to chat with. And I discovered that hot pickled carrots taste far better than they sound.

We got done with dinner around 10 PM, which was right around when Patrick got home, so we headed over to their place and I set up the PHP implementation of Teresa’s plot generator (based on the famous list of Things I’ll Do If I’m Ever The Evil Overlord, and a few others), and did some debugging. Teresa showed me some pictures she’d been collecting of minerals, many of which looked like little landscapes, or old SF paperback covers, or stills from an alien sex-ed film. A bit after midnight she gave me two jars of homemade marmalade and kicked me out so she could get to sleep, and I walked home.
