Some things are eternal

Teresa turned up an amazing document on the web: some fifteenth-century bored student’s doodles. If it had been done in ballpoint instead of quill-pen (and had the horizontal blue rules) it could be a page from one of my highschool looseleaf books. If it were in colored gel pen, it could be current.

I have no idea who this long-dead artist was, but I know exactly how he felt.

That's amazing.... And here's (http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/dept/scwmss/wmss/medieval/mss/lat/misc/c/066.htm) a link to the rest of the commonplace book that page was from.

It reminds me of an old NatLamp bit: A message passed in a medieval monastery, which is an illuminated manuscript page reading, "Brother Augustus farted," with a picture of a knife in a block of cheese.

That is indeed incredibly cool. Medieval margin-doodles!
