Me: I haven’t read the book, so don’t tell me how it comes out.
She: It turns out Hillary’s really a woman! And Reagan dies at the end.
Me: A happy ending!
It’s not that great a movie. Some scenes are padded out with a lot of wacky stock footage that I guess was supposed, well, I don’t know what it was supposed to do, but it’s just distracting. The really compelling bits were the parts about Susan McDougal, who comes off as the hero of the whole mess. There’s no shortage of villains.
I suppose if you weren’t following how Whitewater got spun into an impeachment by the conservative media, this movie will come as a revelation of the degree to which our national discourse is led by scoundrels and incompetents, and it’s easier than reading Conason’s book, or Brock’s Blinded by the Right.
