"Come on up for Verizon"

I’m hearing “The Rising” (title track off Bruce Springsteen’s new album) on the radio. The chorus, “Come on up for the rising”, keeps sounding like a Verizon commercial to me.

Personally, I keep seeing Cthulu coming up from the sea, but maybe that's just me.

When they first changed their name, I was sure it must be pronounced "Veri-zohn" with a nasal tone on the end. Much classier!

The joke I started in the part of GTE that was formerly BBN and which was spun when GTE was bought by merged with Bell Atlantic at the time was a new slogan:

Just like the Horizon, only Vertical!

Which at least helped people remember how to pronounce it: Anita's version was one of several heard around the office at the time.
