Giving up on Firefly

That’s it, strike four, it’s out. I finally remembered to set my VCR, to put the cable box on the right channel, made sure the tape was rewound, all that good stuff, figured I’d finally get to see a whole episode of Firefly, and last night I wound up recording one hour of baseball. Which is a reason not to watch any Fox show. Bad enough I missed half a season of Futurama because of football, I see no reason to get hooked on yet another show that’ll get yanked out from under me by the fact that sports gets higher ratings. I’m at the point where any network that guarantees me that it won’t cover sports (outside of a slot in normal news coverage) will gain a chunk of my loyalty.

I thought sixth season Buffy was Joss's failure.

If anything, leaving S6 entirely to Noxon was his failure. He's back now for S7, and, well, the difference should be obvious.

That was a TVGuide error, not a failing of the show (and they're reairing the pilot tonight at 7 instead, apparently). So far, what I've seen of it -- which is ep2 and ep3 -- I'm liking a LOT. Ep3 in particular was ASSKICKING good. IMHO. What didn't you like about it? :->

It wasn't a TV Guide error -- TV Guide ahd the game listed, I just hadn't bothered to check. As far as I'm concerned it was the error of whoever decided to sell the show to Fox, thus guaranteeing that it would frequently be preempted by sports.

I've yet to see more than a few minutes of any episode, thanks to my repeated fumbling with the VCR. The bit with the baseball game just reminded me that if I do become a fan of the show I'd just be setting myself up for annoyance and frustration. I'm already reluctant to get involved with any new TV shows, just because it places another demand on my time; Fox adds yet another disincentive.

Maybe I'm not understanding properly.

Here, in Chicago, Firefly is aired in the Friday-Night Lineup. This just-past Friday, beacuse of the game, it was known that it was likely to get preempted, and so I'd heard (grapevine, not TVGuide) that they were going to reair the pilot instead of show Ep4. Because it was pre-empted, they're reairing what might have shown Friday, tonight instead. And this Friday will be Ep4. Or so I am led to believe.

Of course, baseball will be over soonish, so. :-> What pisses me off is Angel, this season. Not only was it TOTALLY inadequately advertized as to starting date, causing me to miss it, but this week it aired an hour later than last week. God only knows what next week will be like; if I hadn't been home to watch it live I'd have ended up with an hour of Some Other Show and been very pissed.

My TV Guide listed baseball for last Friday, I just hadn't bothered to look at it. It lists Firefly for this coming Friday, so maybe I'll give it one last try.
