Y’know what’s kinda fucked up? Googling for a product I want to buy, and finding that one of the four (only four!) links returned is an LJ post by me talking about wanting to buy it. (The other three are sites in Australia and the UK.)

Still haven’t bought those weights. By the end of next week, I’ll be at the point where I’d have had them already if I’d just bought them on Monday and had them delivered. Though I’d be out the $65 delivery fee. And, come to think of it, the $200+ cost of the bench I’ve since decided I can do without, at least for now. So it’s just as well, but I really need to get moving on this. I think it still involves getting a car, ’cause I don’t think I can shift 40+ pounds of weights all that way on my own.

From my experience

Especially for people like you and I, who perhaps aren't already in the shape of those in shape (though we're both getting there) the exercise balls are a MUCH better option than standard benches, and luckily much cheaper, too. I'm considering, now that I have some weights, ending my membership as well, and investing less than one month's fee in one of the big balls. Cardio I get from stairs, as Cardozo's elevators are, well, craptastic.

A search tip FYI from an almost-librarian

There are no results yet, but you might want to check froogle.google.com, which they're supposedly setting up as a portal specifically for searching for sale items.

Ebay says there's a guy in Staten Island selling a set of used ones for $274 - show up in person and you don't have to pay a delivery fee. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2709189787&category=15281 :

' (20-60 lbs x 5 lbs) (Suggested Retail $349/pair) *
This set adjusts from 20-60 lbs in 5 lb increments (20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 lbs) in each hand. This set has a maximum weight of 60 lbs per hand. It replaces 9 pair or 18 fixed dumbbells that would have a combined weight of 600 lbs. Small foot print. In like new condition. Hardly used.'

I mean, there's still the car thing, but ari2k has a good feedback rating and you gotta admit, that's a nice chunk off the price... Sorry, longtime eBay fan, me.

Google observation principle

As it happens, on Saturday the NPR show "Studio 360" had a short piece regarding the googling phenomenon. The author liked finding phrases that should be fairly common, but for which there exists no match on google. He then realized that when the show transcript was posted on the web, he would be destroying the observed phenomenon.
