Friday: Games Club

[ sketches ]

The two people on the left were on the subway on the way to Games Club; the one on the right was at Diesel on Sunday.

Played a two-person game of Ido (aka “that game with the board that looks like a Mondrian painting”) with [livejournal.com profile] kent_allard_jr; I don’t think this really works with two people. Played another game of Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers. Managed to pull off quite a coup by using the shrine tile to grab control of the big meadow that I and two other players had been nurturing for most of the game; it even had the fire tile in it. Still, it just got me to second place. Tried to interest [livejournal.com profile] bigscary in a game of Steam Tunnel around 1 AM, but his brain conked out.

Saturday and Sunday: Cthulhia’s

Went up to [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia’s on Saturday, for her feet-’n’-beans birthday party, and to deliver my present, a painting based on an entry of hers from a few months back. It hadn’t come out quite the way I’d had in mind, so I was too self-conscious to present it to her while many people were about. Still, she seemed to like it.

Coloring the absorbent ground with liquid acrylic seems to cut down the absorbency more than I like; a friend of hers (who I don’t remember if she’s on LJ) suggested using powdered pigments for that purpose. Don’t think I want to have jars of powdered cadmium yellow around my living space, much less actually use the stuff.

The party was fun; Cthulhia’d gotten a small pool and 25 pounds of soybeans, and it turns out that some people get very noisily giggly when soybeans are poured on their necks.

Sunday involved hanging out with Cthulhia and [livejournal.com profile] pheromone, seeing some cool art at Diesel (I was disappointed that the walk/don’t walk sign hanging over the restrooms doesn’t indicate occupancy status), seeing a performance of the North Cambridge Family Opera, regretfully deciding that the forecasted blizzard mandated my catching the 11:30 Chinatown bus home that night instead of staying over another night and heading home in the morning, missing the 11:30 bus (due to my taking a wrong turn when walking from the Downtown Crossing T stop) and having to hang around eating Chinese appetizers and reading Five Hundred Years After while waiting for the last bus at 2 AM. At least the bus driver dropped me off at 35th Street and Seventh Avenue so I didn’t have to take the subway back to the PATH from Chinatown. Got home around 6:30 AM.

Today: Snow

It was already snowing pretty hard when I got up. Everyone else had left, I don’t know for where (since I thought [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen was out of work, but I could have missed a new development over the wekend).

Speaking of work, [livejournal.com profile] editrx called with some for me. Yay!

And you completely kicked my ass, too. Thanks, BTW, for not mentioning that part. :-)
