No shrines

- Walked for 32 minutes, doing four (five? I always lose track) sets of 40 reps of flyes, lifts, and overheads, with 1-lb weights. Doing 40 felt about as hard as 35 felt last week, probably a good sign.
- Heartrate stayed in 130s and 140s, never got above 149 that I saw. I don’t think I was walking as fast as I usually do. Still, any heartrate in the 119-156 range ought to do at my age.
On Sixth Street, between Coles and Jersey, I noticed a firehouse. Something about it seemed odd, quiet, subdued. It took me a moment to realize — no flowers, no candles, no pictures, statues, shrines.
I arranged my route to finish at Pikewood Arts, a small gallery (open on Sundays only) on Fifth and Brunswick. Saw some small colored pencil pieces that got me thinking about using that medium again, and a big painting that captured the flavor of the neighborhood very well. I learned that there is indeed a local open studio weekend in October.
