Phew! I spent seven hours at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art’s art festival. I’m exhausted and exhilarated. I think I spent about $80 on various things — wished I’d brought my larger bag — got to meet and talk to a whole bunch of people I admire the heck out of, including Ruben Bolling, Brian Wood, Howard Cruse, Paul Hornschemeier, and <sigh!> Carla Speed McNeil. I missed Paul Pope, and the crowd was too thick around Evan Dorkin.

I also got to see work from lots of talented locals, like Becky Cloonan, Vanessa Satone, Tintin Pantoja, and a whole bunch of other young cartoonists from SVA, which seems to be much more supportive of the cartooning majors than it was when I was there. Oh, and the Meathaus crowd, and so many other great comics people that I can’t even come close to remembering them all! And I’ll be days going through all the comics I brought home.

My one big, major, overwhelming regret is that I walked among them as an outsider. If they hold this thing again next year I’m damn sure gonna have a table and at least some minicomics to show! (Small Press Expo is too soon.)
