Nerve.com’s pickup lines contest has posted its winners. There were three categories, for originality (my favorite is Anna Maxbauer’s “I may not have gotten your virginity, but can I at least have the box it came in?”), successful lines, and miserable failures.

I’ve never been sure whether pickup lines were supposed to be ways of starting up a conversation, or of making a pass in the course of a conversation that’s already running. Most of these seem like the former.
