New Wave Fabulists

Happy, happy. The Conjunctions reading was great. Gahan Wilson looks a little like a Gahan Wilson drawing. All of the readings made me want to get the book, but Kelly Link’s was the clincher, and made me want to dig up her novel, Stranger Things Happen, as well. I got to chat briefly with China Miéville and John Crowley (and get their autographs in my copy of the book — Miéville’s says “From one D&D geek to another”, since I told him which line in Perdido Street Station made me laugh out loud in a jury pool waiting room. And he knew right away how to spell my name!). Stephin Merritt’s performance made me want to get 69 Love Songs. And afterwards womzilla and I went out to dinner with a bunch of publishing people, including Gordon Van Gelder and Ellen Datlow, neither of whom I’d met before. I spoke with Gordon about submitting cartoons to F&SF. I’m feeling all warm and inspired.
The Kirsty MacColl song playing on RadioIO right now is pretty good too.
