Winter's over

Winter’s finally over. Not just the season, though it did hit 80°F here a little while ago. But it turns out I’ve been living through a sort of winter of the soul, and not noticing till today. Not really depression, but a husbanding of internal resources. I noticed today that I was thinking of the future in a way that I hadn’t been doing recently, and that my thoughts for the past few months had been mostly about just getting through the present.

And the future looks decent. Just as I was finishing up my first commission, the dental software job, I got offered two more. And then the dental software folks called about some consulting work — they want me in at a meeting on Friday to talk about their software’s interface and design. (Great thing about working for the software industry: Nothing’s ever permanently finished, there’s always a new version coming out, and if they like your work, they call you back to do more of it.)

I packed away my space heater today, and while I was clearing out the corner near my bedroom closette (not an actual closet, but a 4' door leading to an attic crawlspace) I thought again about getting an adjustable workout bench, and some heavier PowerBlocks. Not till I’ve got some disposable income, and a Portable Mini Cycle comes first, but that was when I realized that winter was over.

And an air conditioner. Turns out my room gets pretty warm.
