More doodling

More fiddling about with character designs for the web comic. I think I’m getting a better handle on what the characters look like, and starting to converge on some stylistic choices. I should experiment more with line weights. Can’t use that 005 pen for everything. I may have to do some more work to keep my protagonist from looking too much like Monique from Sinfest (though Slick looks a whole lot like Calvin, as one strip pointed out).
I’ve also spent some time familiarizing myself more with Photoshop. I’ve got a good grasp of the chunk of its tools that I use a lot, but there’s a lot of stuff I never use, and ought to be exploring. (That purple demon got his speckly look compliments of the Noise filter.) I’ve been working through the tutorials at The Photoshop Guru’s Handbook site. It may also be time to download the 30-day demo of Corel Painter 8, to see how it compares. (I’ve got an old version, from way back when it was a Fractal Design product, but firing up Classic is a pain; I think the new version oughta be OSX native.)
