Games-Club-in-Exile, at
bigscary’s
mnemex had downloaded, and it was pretty cool, and I wound up not losing by as much as I’d thought, even though Mnemex and BigScary were racking up mad points due to good building combinations. And I sketched a quick drawing of
negativeq (using my new shades-of-gray Faber-Castell brush markers) as she sat playing The Sims. But around, I dunno, 2 AM or so, BigScary broke out his late grandmother’s old clothes, and some of the more slender folks tried on dresses and jackets.
cbreaker got seriously pimped out in a fur jacket and gold chains,
feiran found a flowery hat that was just adorable on her, NegQ made herself a cultist, and I even put on a turban and played at harem guard for a bit.
I’m not sure what time it was when Mnemex, drcpunk and I left, maybe around 4 AM. The weather was nice, so we walked from 72nd down to 59th, ate at the Tramway Diner (which has actual little tram-shaped lanterns), and then they took the subway while I walked on, figuring that I was halfway to the PATH and might as well save myself a fare.
I walked west on 59th, stopped off at Fifth Avenue to sit on the steps in front of FAO Schwartz and sketch the roof of the Plaza Hotel. Dawn was well on its way by this point, though it’s hard to tell how far the sun is above the horizon when you’re in a canyon of buildings. I was tempted to just hang out in Manhattan for a while, sketching buildings and waiting for Kinokuniya Books to open so I could pick up a copy of the first volume of the Read or Die manga. But I realized that I needed sleep sometime soon, and most attractive buildings don’t have convenient stairs across the street to sit on.
It was almost 6:30 AM when I got the 33rd Street PATH station. Something like 7:30 when I got home.
