I’ve not been exercising these past couple of weeks, ever since it got really hot. Too hot to do Heavyhands outside, and the weights weren’t really doing much for me. Watching
cadhla workin’ it to Richard Simmons got me really regretting my slackitude, but our living room isn’t big enough to join her, and some of those moves might have me putting my fist through the ceiling. Today I went out and checked what gyms in my neighborhood are charging, figuring maybe I can hit my parents up for a year’s gym fees.
My needs are modest: Elliptical cross-trainer (a treadmill will do in a pinch) for cardio, free weights and adjustable benches for weight training. Anything after that is gravy, and pretty much any gym worth the name will have all of those.
I looked at two gyms today, both on the same stretch of Newark Avenue. Gold Coast seems to have a wider range of equipment, but Synergy is markedly cheaper. Also, Synergy’s equipment is newer, and it’s open 24 hours Monday through Friday, just in case I have an urge to work out at 2 AM.
Both gave me free tryout coupons, five and four days respectively, so I’ve got nine days of free exercise ahead of me before I have to decide anything. There’s a third gym (mostly boxing-oriented, I think) I’m thinking of visiting a few blocks over to the west; maybe I can get up to two weeks of free grunting.
In other news, I just got a mix CD from
zoe_trope. Thanks Zoe! I’m enjoying it right now. I’m always on the lookout for new music, but with money so tight I can’t afford to just go buy anything interesting-looking like I could two years ago. Anyway, out of 19 tracks, there were only two (maybe three) that I’d heard before, and only one (maybe two) that I already owned.
