Aug. 13th, 2004 12:10 amSo, shoulder bags. I’ve got, like, three of ’em, in various sizes and weights, and it’s not enough. See, my lightweight bag, an old Eagle Creek Companion Expandable that they don’t make anymore (similar to this one), is suffering massive wear on its strap rings. It’s not long for this world, and I probably ought to just throw it out now instead of having it take up space, since I can’t trust it to actually carry things in.
That leaves me with my Manhattan Portage Wallstreeter (a great, sturdy bag with lots of pockets, but heavy) and my Timbuk2 messenger bag (far bigger than I need). I’d been having neck pains a couple weeks ago, and I think it was bag-related. They went away after I bought a longer and padded strap, but still, I want a lighter bag, something big enough to hold a 9x12 sketchbook, but still small enough that it won’t tempt me to carry too much. It should have an open pocket on the back, and a flap that goes over the top, and some small interior pockets. I’d prefer something with a single clasp instead of two or more. A handle on top would also be nice. A detachable strap would be ideal, but I don’t expect to get that.
(Hm, then there’s the older Manhattan Portage bag, and the bag my parents got for me, and I guess my portfolio bag counts, so that’s six bags....)
YakPak’s Medium Tech Flapdoozy looks good. I think it’s got everything I’m looking for, but I can’t be sure without (at the very least) more pictures from a variety of angles. YakPak’s website isn’t any help.
Anyone know of a store in NYC that carries these things so I can check one out? I somehow or other got the idea that Urban Outfitters stocked them, but no.
And no, I probably won’t get a MegaTokyo one.
