Kerry’s Senate record
Oct. 20th, 2004 10:49 pmIt’s occurred to me that not everyone who reads this is a politics geek. Some of you may not know that the Bush campaign is lying when it says that Kerry doesn’t have a record of accomplishment in his 20-year Senate record. Here, a couple of articles:
Newsweek, “Kerry by the Book”:
A broad overview of Kerry’s Senate record. Starts off with a mention of his role in bringing down BCCI, about which more in the next article. Also mentions his record of working together with Senators on both sides of the aisle, including his work with John McCain on POW-MIAs.
Washington Monthly, “Follow the Money”:
The story of how Kerry busted open BCCI, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, a massive terrorist financing network that handled money for Manuel Noriega, Saddam Hussein, and Osama bin Laden. Oh, and one of their subsidiaries helped finance one of GW Bush’s oil deals. The BCCI investigationled into uncovering grew out of Iran-Contra as well.
A lot of right-wingers sneer derisively at the notion of treating terrorists as criminals to be policed, instead of soldiers to be killed, but if we don’t want to see a nuke or a dirty bomb go off in Times Square (and I really don’t — I work there) we’re going to need to track down the loose radioactives that Bush has allowed to go missing in Iraq, and follow those networks of money and material.
