A few days ago, D’arc Tangent came up in a conversation with (I think) [livejournal.com profile] akawil and [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen. This was Phil Foglio’s first comics project, back in 1982, a collaboration with Freff, a wonderful SF comic series that never saw a second issue. Studio Foglio has some copies that they’re selling for $25 a pop, but I found one copy on eBay (I had to search without the apostrophe to find it) that’s currently going for $4.50 (plus shipping, of course, in both cases).

I need to dig up my copy.

I've put in a bid for $10.00. If somebody's going to fight with me for it, please let me know how high you're really willing to go, and we'll decide which of us is going to get it here, and thus avoid bumping each other's bids higher to no purpose.

Yay collusion!

And just for fun, does anyone want to argue the "No, it's unethical" side of voluntary bidder collusion among some, but not all, of the bidders in an auction?

The stories I could tell about Freff [pinching bridge of nose and shaking head]. Then again, the stories Elric could tell about Phil! :) (They used to play poker together every week, back when they all lived within spitting distance in the 80s.)

Err...like what?

Given that I don't recognize your name or your photograph; can't recall ever having met you (so if we ever did, it must have been in passing); and haven't been particularly active in your corner of the profession for 20 years, it is difficult for me to imagine that you know very much about me.

But I dearly love to hear stories about stuff that went on back in the '80s -- sometimes they are even true -- so feel free to spill.

Cheers,

Connor Freff Cochran

Scott & Rachel's house in MA. I was practically living there at the time. You wandered through quite a few times, along with Lee Moyer and the NJ gang of the usual suspects. In fact, it was mostly the Usual Suspects that were hanging out, around, and about during that entire period.

Not remembering me isn't an issue, Freff. I'm not terribly memorable, except for having a shelf that was as big as Mama Liz's back then. (And after carrying all that around for over 30 years, in my 40s I did what Liz did; reduction is my friend [and my back's friend!]. And now men look me in the eye. Funny thing, eh? :) ] )
