The first-best thing about buying used CDs is that they’re cheap — I just got three disks for $18.

The second-best thing is that they don’t have that annoying strip of tape across the top of the case.

I may be wrong about which of those things is first-best.

I was buying a handful of dollar DVDs on Saturday, and contemplating the hours of fun I'd have unwrapping the things. I wondered why they bother wrapping them in the first place. At least they didn't have three strips of the tape across the top (and bottom and side).

In case anyone wonders, they were The Beast of Yucca Flats, the Lon Chaney Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hal Roach's not-quite-the-Little-Rascals Who Killed Doc Robbins?, a British Alice in Wonderland, three episodes of the "Robin Hood" TV show, and Bucket of Blood. Why, they'd be cheap at $1.25!
