Loot!

Today was serious loot day. First, the lottery! The Mega-Millions jackpot was over $160 million the other day, so a bunch of my co-workers all chipped in money and bought a bunch of tickets. We won — four dollars! Among the thirty of us. About 13¢ each. We’re plowing it into the next batch of tickets, ’cause nobody won the big bucks so the jackpot’s up over $200 million.

Next, comics! The first issue of Klarion the Witch Boy came out, the fourth of Grant Morrison’s four-issue series that all hook up into one great big maximiniseries. This is the Solomon Grundy one, though Morrison goes way off on a tangent from the character. Still pretty damn good. Has some potential to grab in the goth-comics readers; would have more if there were more lace and detail. Still, a really creepy premise.

Also, volume 1 of Sharknife, full of visual verve and hyper-kinetic combat with lots of Asian-cinema and video-game influences. I’m looking forward to volume 2. And Four Letter Worlds, a 16-story anthology trade from Image that I haven’t read yet.

Then I stopped off at Best Buy on the way home, and found that they had really cheap DVDs. I got the original Buffy movie and Dark City for $7 each, and Donny Darko for $10.

At home, it turned out that the Amazon shipment that wasn’t due till the 25th had arrived early. Benefit of living near a major mail-sorting nexus, I guess. Anyway, this had a new digital camera (Canon SD200) I’ve been faunching over for months but had put off till after I was sure I’d be able to pay my taxes, the Firefly DVD set, the big book of Bone, and Tom Stafford’s and Matt Webb’s Mind Hacks.

Maybe I ought to not spend any money for the next couple of weeks.
