Rejoining the net
Jan. 11th, 2003 11:40 pmSo a bit of technical fiddling has revealed that our net.suckage was probably the result of something in our setup rather than floating Verizon incompetence. Wil’s current theory is that LadyM’s Win95 laptop was screwing things up in some fashion that I do not understand. Since disconnecting it from the LAN, the rest of the computers have been enjoying uninterrupted broadband access, wheee! Soon we’ll get the wireless set back up and I can surf from the couch, or my room, or probably even Frank’s Pizza.
I’ve been fiddling around with wikis. I’ve been wanting for quite a while to set up a local one on my laptop, just for use as a note-taking and quick-reference device for an RPG I’m (occasionally) running. I got SnipSnap up and running, and decided I didn’t like how it was built around dated entries. I downloaded and installed PHPWiki, which I’d once installed on my Linux box at work a couple years back, but I’m having trouble. I got a PHP error telling me that the dba_open() function was undefined, when that’s a built-in PHP function. My guess is that my PHP wasn’t built with the configuration options necessary for dba. Now I’m contemplating rebuilding it. I’ve done this before, under Linux, but now I’m oddly reluctant.
