Almost done

The seekrit painting is starting to piss me off. It’s done in a parody of a style that isn‘t mine, and that the materials I’m using aren’t really suited to, so I’m struggling with it a lot more than I’d expected. Still I ought to be able to finish it tonight, or at worst tomorrow. It’s too big to scan, so y’all don’t get to see it; sorry.

I’ve discovered a box (the one my stereo’s turntable originally came in) that’s just about the perfect size for shipping it in, so I won’t have to construct one out of foamcore. Whew!

I’ve also been learning more about the handling qualities of the paints I’m using. “Opaque” paints aren‘t nearly as much so as I’d expected, at least not on Gessobord. I don’t think I’ll be using it as a support again.

I think scanning a wet painting would provide an interesting challenge. And much texture to all future scans.

I could provide a similar effect by making just a few small painterly modifications to your monitor.

I may wind up tossing out my scanner some day anyway; it's a Umax, and I don't have high hopes of ever seeing an OSX-compatible driver for it. Wouldn't hurt to have come up in advance with some ideas for clever ways to trash it.
