[ Person Eating a Tasty Animal ] PETA (the original one, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, not People Eating Tasty Animals) has started up a new ad campaign comparing the food industry to the Nazi Holocaust. Meryl Yourish has pointed out that this is just a publicity stunt, designed to elicit outrage and thus attract attention, and has suggested responding with another stunt, declaring March 15 International Eat an Animal for PETA Day. Go chow down on something that once walked around! (Yeah, like I need an excuse.)

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the font used on the title at the top of that MassKilling.com page is the title font from classic Star Trek?

Two things:

One, I know nothing of PETA, only that my Lenten fast this year will be what it was last year - nothing that required an animal to die. Milk's okay, unfertilized eggs are okay, kosher cheese is ok, anything marked kosher dairy or parve is probably okay. Just sayin' Lent starts on Wednesday, so I can't participate in Eat an Animal for PETA Day.

And two - you know Meryl? God, I got most of my start online at her BBS! I haven't had contact with her in years!

It probably would be just as annoying to PETA, and do more good in the world, if we sent money to animal-based essential scientific research and wrote PETA saying their ad campaign helped us decide to do so. I have a family interest in lupus research, but AIDS is also needed & hgihly dependent on primate testing.
