Fucking television. One of my dreams is ubiquitous super-broadband net connections and a business model that lets viewers directly support the studios that produce TV shows, bypassing the broadcaster entirely and making TV networks as relevant as buggy-whip manufacturers.

Five minutes from the end of tonight’s episode of Angel, the station interrupts the show for some “breaking news” about the upcoming war with Iraq. And having done that, they tell me nothing of any actual immediate import, nothing that I couldn’t have found out for myself in thirty seconds browsing of Google News. Just typical breaking news coverage — nothing to say, but in a big hurry to say it.

And I bet you there was some sort of DisCord Revelation/Stingshot coming in the next thirty seconds. Something big and eventfull-y

It is of course a felony and all that, but if you don't mind that...

BitTorrent is a nifty fast cooperative file trading app, that makes downloading television shows a practical special-case activity.

Versions are available for both Windows and MacOS X, and probably Linux. Googling for the obvious finds it easily.

Once you have it installed, the magic URL is:

Well, how about waiting all evening for something to happen, getting bored and fed up with the inaction-yet-full-blown-coverage, going to bed at 10 pm, and waking up the next morning to find out that bombing started at 10:15 pm? With all the media hype, it appeared as if full blown war would commence once the deadline countdown ticked to 0. Jerked around by mass-media jerk-offs once again.

Glad I'm not the only person annoyed with the interruption. (Atrios complained about it, too.) I feel a lot less shallow now. :-)

It would have pissed the snot out of me, that's for sure. Haven't had a chance to see it yet, but have been told that the last five minutes are "pretty important". I've also been told that Ain't it Cool has posted a transcription of the last 5 minutes, for those who missed it.
