Pens and Buffy
Apr. 23rd, 2003 11:24 pmY’know what was kinda cool? Stumbling across a pen — Splash brush pen, made by Yasutomo — that I’d forgotten about and discovering that I really like the lines I can make with it, even if they take for-fucking-ever to dry. Y’know what kinda sucks? Finding out that they don’t make it anymore. No wonder I hadn’t seen them at Pearl last few times I’d looked. I may have to look into Japanese brush pens.
Chatting with
drcpunk at NYRSF today. Thought of something else:
Way back in “Conversations With Dead People” (probably the best episode of the season) Joyce appeared to Dawn and told her “When the time comes, Buffy won’t choose you.” I’ve already explained my reasons for thinking this is really Joyce, and not the First Evil. I’ve been wondering what she meant, and here’s some speculation: In the big climax, Buffy is going to have to give away some or all of her Slayer power. She won’t give any to Dawn. I’m not sure just why I think this, and I don’t have any really good ideas for why she’s going to have to do it. I suspect that the Slayer power is tied in to the First Evil somehow, otherwise they wouldn’t have spent an episode establishing its origin.
Or maybe not. I looked up a transcript of the episode, and here’s what Joyce said:
Things are coming, Dawn. Listen, things are on their way. I love you, and I love Buffy, but she won’t be there for you. [...] When it’s bad, Buffy won’t choose you. She’ll be against you.
That doesn’t actually fit very well with my Slayer power theory.
Anyway, Dr Cpunk and I agree that although this season started out well, it’s just been kinda dragged-out and unsatisfying. There’ve still been some good bits, but so much of it seems like preparation that I find myself getting frustrated.
I wound up leaving the house pretty late, so I went to my usual comics and NYRSF social gatherings instead of going to MoCCA.
