Finally got around to seeing Cowboy Bebop: The Movie on the big screen tonight, only eight months later than planned.
ladymondegreen,
akawil, Chris and I met up at the Loews E-Walk (aka “the ewok”) on 42nd Street for the 7:20 PM showing. (It’s also showing at the Angelika on Houston St., and that’s it for New York.)
Pretty damn good. Not as good as the best of the series episodes, but better than the worst, and long enough to give all the main characters interesting scenes. All the classic Bebop stuff is there: fistfights, gunfights, aerial dogfights, Ed hacking computer nets, Jet being maudlin and sarcastic, Spike complaining about food, Faye displaying her cleavage, Ein being smarter than the rest of them put together, the three old geezers yammering on about the old days. An incredibly visually well-realized city, and a truly kick-ass soundtrack.
