So much for virtue
Apr. 30th, 2003 11:18 pmI was faced with a dilemma today: Should I do my usual Wednesday weights workout, or a Heavyhands session to make up for the one I didn’t do yesterday? I did neither, thus erasing Monday’s virtue.
And I got something to worry about: As an alumnus, I’ve been using SVA’s job board (actually a service called College Central) to find work. They keep a copy of my résumé in their database, and when I find an ad that looks good I click a button, type in a cover letter, and they supposedly do the rest. Today I got email from someone saying that they couldn’t get the résumé from College Central, and could I please send one as an attachment? No problem, since I keep copies of my résumé in a variety of formats (ASCII, HTML, PDF, MS Word) for just such contingencies, but I wonder how many prospective employers or clients are not even bothering to write and ask.
Scraped my head clean today, but ran out of shaving cream so there are still some rough spots. Voyaged into Manhattan for comics (New X-Men #140) and NYRSF, sketched on the way. On the way back I got caught in my first-ever long delay on the PATH; just like on the MTA, they talk about problems as abstract “conditions” — “Due to a track condition...”. Got home in time to watch Angel, and it’s amazing how much better that show is doing than Buffy. The tensions among the characters are more believable, the villains more plausibly threatening and more interesting, and the whole leavened with wry humor and amusing ironies.
