Games Club at [livejournal.com profile] bigscary’s again last night. I got to play the new Marvel superhero RPG, GMed by one Steven Tihor, who helped develop it. It’s an interesting system, if perhaps a bit abstract. I played Nightcrawler, [livejournal.com profile] kent_allard_jr played Wolverine, [livejournal.com profile] negativeq played Kitty Pryde, [livejournal.com profile] feiran (who’s new to RPGing, and seemed far more excited at the prospect of playing the Marvel game than just about any gamer I’ve ever seen) played Rogue, [livejournal.com profile] viridian played Jean Grey, and Ben (who must have an LJ, because everyone does, but I don’t know about it) played token non-mutant Iron Man.

It was pretty cool. If I played again, I’d want a character designed to take better advantage of the quirks of the system. But as it was I got to argue philosophy with Mystique in a cheesy German accent, and no system quirks will prevent that. I even made arguments that I wouldn’t have made in real life, and I’m always pleased on the rare occasions I can get deep enough into character to do stuff like that.

Heh. Steve Tihor was my first (though he didn't know me from Adam) sysadmin - he was high up in the NYU ACF staff and I was a sophmore, more or less.

(He still doesn't know me, don't worry about closing the connection link...)

Ben's livejournal name is [livejournal.com profile] hslayer. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] feiran's enthusiasm for the game was delightful (to me, anyway). I'm still a bit ambivalent about the system, although my reaction wasn't quite as negative as last time. (I seem to spend more time thinking in system terms than I'd like.)

I remember Steve Tihor from years ago; this is the first I've heard of him in a long time.
