Sketching at Ground
Aug. 26th, 2003 06:36 pmI spent an hour or two hanging out at Ground, a coffee bar on Jersey Avenue. It’s also an art gallery — the paintings on the walls had price tags, and a few had “Sold” stickers. There are several artists represented, and some of the stuff was really good. Makes we want to start slopping paint around again.
Second discovery: Ground offers free refills, at least on plain (hot or iced) coffee. Actually, first refill free, and cheap thereafter. My caffeine intake is going to skyrocket.
So I sat around and sketched, and I’m really liking the grayscale markers, especially on the Borden & Riley paper. I can get all sorts of nice tonal stuff going on, though I wind up not using the darkest gray.
Those top two are drawn from life, the bottom two out of my head.
