I’ve just finished the Honor Among Punks collection. It’s good, well worth reading. The art is wonderful, and the characters are interesting. The story works on some levels — well-paced, engaging — but they are built around three main crimes, and the motivations given for the crimes just didn’t convince me in two cases, and in the third I saw the shocking surprise coming, and still thought it was something of a stereotype. The author (or authors — Davis is listed as both artist and writer, but Reed has a non-specific “co-creator” credit) came up with plausible details to wrap around the crimes, but couldn’t come up with reasons for the crimes that fit as well into the stories.
Anyway, that’s my one complaint. Oh, except for the one I made before, that I didn’t see why this needed to be set in an alternate history, unless maybe the degree of power that the aristocrats have here is greater than what they have in the real world.
