The Modern Humorist previews the Fall 2002 TV season, including Joss Whedon’s Firefly:

From the unconventional mind of innovative TV wunderkind Joss Whedon comes a new series of startling originality. A captain and his odd lot of a crew voyage among distant planets, encountering conflict and wonder at each stop. Their journey is a bold one, going where no man has g— Hey… Wait a goddamn minute. Shelly? I’m going to need to see Joss. Yes, now. I don’t care what fan site he’s talking to, get that punk in here.

I’m not actually expecting a original premise in Firefly; I’m hoping for good dialog, characterization, and plotting.

Day 12

Today I completed my 12th day (fourth week) of weights training under the Hot Point Fitness plan. That ends Phase 1. I still don’t plan to go on to Phase 2, just repeat Phase 1. I’m still spending three hours to do all the weights, stretching, and aerobics that Steve Zim (no, he doesn’t have an exercise for the squeedlyspoop) says I’m supposed to be able to do in an hour. There’s no fucking way I could do all that in an hour, but I ought to be able to reign it in to under two hours.

As the book predicts, there’s an addictive aspect to this. At the end of each session I’m thinking hard about kicking the plan, but by Saturday evening I’m craving the upcoming Sunday workout.

Sadly, I didn’t measure myself or get a body fat index done before I started, so I don’t have numerical indicators of my progress, other than my weight. I’ve lost nine pounds, and my legs seem more muscular and less fatty, especially below the knees.
