Setting up

OK, I’ve made pretty much no progress working on that portfolio piece. No sketches, nothing. I have cut a bunch of illustration board down to reasonable size, which involved clearing off a year’s accumulated debris from the top of a short bookcase, and digging up my cutting board, ruler, t-square, and triangle. On the way, I found an old butcher tray I used as a palette in my college days. I’m still fiddling around with the actual process of painting, trying to find out which method of laying out and mixing paint works best for me.

Now I have to figure out which side of the Crescent watercolor board I just cut down is the working surface.

I remember when I was in college (back in the late ’80s), the school store used to stock small sample pieces of illustration board, I think from Letraset. I’m pretty sure these were specially-sized pieces from the manufacturer, not something cut down from regular boards by the store. They were about the size of a paperback book, maybe a bit larger, and cheap. Perfect for me, because I like working small. I did lots of assignments on those little things. I don’t see them around nowadays, and haven’t been able to find any mention of them on the web, not even in Letraset’s website or online catalog.

Leaks

I’d planned to go to the gym today, and maybe do a few other things, but the damned bathroom is leaking again. Last year it got bad enough that the ceiling collapsed before the plumber got around to doing anything about it, leaving me showering at the gym for a week. I’d hoped that the problem was fixed, but no.

So around 1 PM I hear water start pouring out of the top of the frame of the bathroom door. I rush a bucket over, and a little while later it spreads to an adjacent door-frame. I called the management office, and they said they’d get someone on it.

Nothing by 5 PM, so I went back online for a while. Now it’s almost 8, and I still haven’t heard anything, and clearly I’m not going to today.
