Just ten years ago...

  • Version 1.0 of the Linux kernel was about to be released.
  • Intel had just introduced the 66-MHz Pentium chip.
  • Doom was the hot new computer game.
  • The Internet was 25 years old.
  • The economy was slowly recovering, after two years of recession (that one seems kinda familiar, except for the recovering part).
  • NCSA released version 1.0 of Mosaic (which later became Netscape Navigator).

  • Weight: 275
  • Walked for 30 minutes, maybe a bit more. It was 35 minutes from the time I started walking till I took my heartrate monitor off in my bedroom, and my heartrate stayed elevated, so it may count for metabolic purposes.
  • Heartrate didn’t elevate quite as high as on Sunday. High 130s to mid 140s for most of it, only popped above 150 once.
  • It just seemed harder today than on Sunday.

I’d somehow missed the news that NYC may avoid the 33% fare hike scheduled for this weekend. The Straphangers Campaign is arguing in court that the since the MTA lied about its finances (hiding half a billion dollars with accounting sleight of hand), the fare hike and other changes predicated on the lack of that money should be blocked. The MTA is claiming that blocking the changes would cause “chaos and confusion”, poor dears. But really, I’m just journalling this because I like this photo of NY Supreme Court Justice Louis York listening to arguments.

[ demon ] I’m still brainstorming ideas for a web comic. Hints of plot are congealing. Bits of dialog came to me last night, and a couple of names this afternoon. I got out the old-fashioned dead tree media and did some sketching and watercoloring (Caran D’Ache Neocolor II water-soluble crayons and a Niji water brush).
