Games Club at bigscary’s
kent_allard_jr played Wolverine,
negativeq played Kitty Pryde,
feiran (who’s new to RPGing, and seemed far more excited at the prospect of playing the Marvel game than just about any gamer I’ve ever seen) played Rogue,
viridian played Jean Grey, and Ben (who must have an LJ, because everyone does, but I don’t know about it) played token non-mutant Iron Man.
It was pretty cool. If I played again, I’d want a character designed to take better advantage of the quirks of the system. But as it was I got to argue philosophy with Mystique in a cheesy German accent, and no system quirks will prevent that. I even made arguments that I wouldn’t have made in real life, and I’m always pleased on the rare occasions I can get deep enough into character to do stuff like that.
Slogged through the rain to Kinokuniya Books, hoping to score a copy of the first Read or Die book, but I couldn’t find it. Squishing my way back down to the PATH, I stopped in at Jim Henley’s Universe and found issue #2 of 4 Eyes, an anthology comic from Bries, a small Belgian comics publisher. I’d gotten #3 some time ago, and been looking for the earlier issues. Mmmm, European small press in English. I also got The Couriers, by Brian Wood and Rob G.
And yesterday I picked up the first collection of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Forbidden Planet has ’em for $10, though the cover price is $14.95. I wonder if they overstocked, expecting high sales because of the movie. (Or, possibly, a new edition’s coming out with a movie tie-in cover.)
This makes up for there having been only one comic that I buy (New X-Men) out on Wednesday.
