Rowling and RPGs

womzilla once said (after a comment I made about China Miéville’s Perdido Street Station) that it’s a pretty safe bet that any fantasy author of our generation or younger (and Rowling’s about a year older than me) has played RPGs, but the Harry Potter books read as if the author’s never had a bunch of bright people banging on the edges of her fictional world, trying to figure out how it works and looking for weakness to exploit. Anyone know for sure?
