While looking over the big list of Icehouse games and 404 pages I was briefly intrigued by Ice Market, but put off by it’s unstructured nature and need for scoresheets. Yesterday, at NYRSF, I kicked around ideas with [livejournal.com profile] womzilla, that eventually gelled into something sort of like the old Milton Bradley game Quandary (sadly out of print, though I see there’s a card game that’s similar and much cheaper). But there’s nothing cheaper than stuff you’ve already got on hand, so I’m thinking about what I can do with the basic concept, Icehouse pieces, and an ordinary deck of cards.

3D17 (link via Boing Boing) is a website that allows groups to create documents by suggesting changes and voting on them. “Have you ever thought what kind of letter the combined intelligence of 1,000 people might produce to support your opinion?” the site asks, and well, yes I have, and I don’t expect anything stirring or coherent to come out of such a mix.

But such a system might work well for small groups doing online role-playing. The name of the site even sounds vaguely RPGish.

If anybody out there is thinking of doing XML work under MacOS X, you’ll probably want to check out this page on installing BioPerl, scrolling down to the section on XML Enabling Modules. It’s got a link to a version of expat that’s tweaked to compile easily on OSX, and directions for making the changes to XML::Parser that you’ll need to get that working.
