Yet another day waking up too late to go to the gym. But it’s Wednesday, new comics day! (I actually stopped off at Cosmic Comics yesterday, looking for some TPBs, wound up buying the first Ultimate X-Men collection. This week’s new comics were out, but under embargo, so I could look and read but not buy ’em.) This week’s crop:

Paul Pope’s 100% #2: I liked this better than #1. The plot doesn’t seem to be moving all that quickly, but we find out a bit more about the world and the characters, and there are a couple of neat ideas.

Marc Hempel’s Naked Brain #1: A new Marc Hempel series, what’s not to like? Actually it’s a mini-series, just three issues, and a lot of it is reprints of stuff he’s already published on the Web, but since I never knew about the website, this is new material to me. Most of it is just quick one-page joke strips, but there’s also a short Tug & Buster story.

Strangers in Paradise #51: Good issue, but I’m starting to get tired of this title. It seems like the characters are just going around in circles with nothing ever getting resolved. Yeah, I know life’s like that sometimes, but fiction doesn’t have to be. But then, just like an SiP character, I keep talking about dropping SiP, and then not doing it!

Bone #48: It’s long enough between issues that I keep forgetting what’s been going on. But #55 is supposed to be the last issue, and after that I’ll be able to read the whole thing from beginning to end. Well, once I’ve bought the collections I will.

Sky Between Branches #0: A preview of an upcoming comic. Very pretty, though it’s too early to tell much else about it. Oddly, the sketch art in the back looks a lot more interesting to me than the finished art in the front.
