Wood's expensive
Oct. 9th, 2003 03:56 pmGrrrr. Was all set to be productive and go out and buy some wood and build some standing shelves so I can clear off my drawing table and eliminate general clutter. I’d even found a free-range shopping cart to haul the lumber in. Turns out 45-odd linear feet of 1-by-12 white pine costs around $60 ($1.60/foot), twice what I was willing to spend. So much for that idea. I figured if Ikea can sell bookshelves for $35, I ought to be able to get my own wood and save money with my own labor. Sure, Ikea’s low-end stuff is made out of cheap particle board, but still, I didn’t expect the price differential to be that steep.
