Today’s lesson: Unsweetened coffee tastes disgusting. Under Atkins, I can have milk in my coffee, but not sugar or honey. I think I’m going off coffee for a couple weeks.


I’m trying out Caran D’ache Neocolor II crayons as watercolors on this top piece. Not really happy with the results; they’re not intense enough. Makes me want to break out my real watercolors again. but I’m not about to schlep those around in my bag.

I think you get used to it... me, I love my coffee sweet, but I've taken myself off the sugar a few times in my life and have been able to adjust. Hey, some strange people actually prefer it like that! Sick bastards.

Splenda is good stuff. I'm also rediscovering the joys of aspartame as a try to reduce the amount of gratuitous sugar in my life to bring my blood values into better shape.

Yeah, that’s the sweetener Atkins recommends. I’ll see about picking some up next time I go shopping.

Note that while sweeteners are nice, cream also works quite well.

Oops, guess I'm a "sick bastard" then -- I drink my coffee black. Even when I drank lattes, I didn't put any sugar or sweetener in it. Sometimes cream, but rarely, and the coffee has to be really bad.

1: Technically, caffeine is taboo. But everyone seems to ignore it, and it works fine.
2: No milk. Heavy cream only.
3: As noted above, splenda.

4: Consider having it iced. Iced black coffee is a whole different experience from either hot black or milk&sugar iced.

I was having decaf.

Hm. I don’t think Ground has heavy cream. But I can drink the stuff black if it’s sweetened.

And Ground doesn’t have cheap refills on iced coffee. ($1 for first cup, first refill free, subsequent refills 25¢ each, which is why I can afford to sit there all afternoon reading, sketching, and occasionally playing chess.)
