Sky Captain

Thanks to smuu I just saw the trailer for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow! This looks damn cool. For those of you who don’t have QuickTime, or don’t feel like downloading the trailer, I’ve snapped a few screenshots:



Isn’t that something? For those of you who don’t know Manhattan, that’s the Flatiron Building right behind that plane. The street angling off to the left is Broadway, the one you’re looking down on the right is Fifth Avenue. Towards the right of the image, you can see a building with a light-colored dome on top. The dome’s actually golden; my office at Crossover/UnGames had a great view of it from a block down Fifth. Way in the background, very dim, you can just make out what I suspect is supposed to be the World Trade Center. I have a feeling this movie is deliberately set in several contradictory time periods.

Although they may doing as they are in order to generate buzz on the film, I wish the site would have a bit more information on it. Although I suppose any movie with legions of death robots can't be all bad.

The bit they show makes it almost look like something Howard Waldrop would write. NY at the time of the 1939 Fair is right up his alley; I'd be he has one of the robots sitting on his desk.
