How did I miss that?

I don’t know how I missed this the first time ’round, but when Oreb (the bird Silk buys to sacrifice to the Outsider) appears to die, and then later shows up alive, it never even occurred to me on the first two readings of Long Sun to suspect that Silk might have something like Severian‘s power to raise the dead.

I don’t think there’s any evidence that he does have that power (though I’ll have my eyes open for it as I keep going), but a smart reader who’d read New Sun ought to have been thinking along those lines. Wolfe probably set it up that way as a red herring.
