Working with solid black

A cousin of mine gave birth last Sunday, to a boy, so today was the bris. That meant spending last night over at my parents’ place, and today out in Lawn Guy Land. But I got driven back in the afternoon.

Spent a chunk of the evening at Ground, doing some doodling. I’m trying to work more with shadows and solid blacks. Results so far are mixed....




This one really needs to be colored; the tires don’t work at all as it stands. I’m very fond of how that boot looks, though.



This one’s unfinished; I might give up on it and start it over. I really like the nipple ring, which doesn’t show up nearly as well in the scan.

And I'm amazed you actually attended the bris, as I recall that sort of thing being a thorny issue for you.

Rachel. I don’t remember when you last saw her. (Technically she’s not my cousin, but I can’t remember the term for father’s sister’s grand-daughter.)

I hung out in the back of the room and didn’t recite along with the prayers. They had nova and flattened bagels.

Oh, right, Rachel. I knew she was noticeably pregnant when I saw her last, maybe for Amanda's naming?

And yes, she (as well as the kid) is your cousin. She's your aunt's granddaughter. Her mother (Carol?) would be your first cousin, so if I learned this correctly, you and Elisa are Rachel's first cousins once removed (and vice versa), Amanda is her second cousin, and her son is probably your first cousin twice removed, since he's three generations down from the sibling relationship and you're one generation down. "Cousin" will suffice for all but relativistic speeds, however.
