Almost a sunrise; also mirrors
Feb. 5th, 2004 02:10 amIn Green’s Jungles, page 186: “Bello added that we had marched until midnight to do it, and risen the next morning with the Short Sun.” I believe this is the closest anyone comes in any of the Sun books to using the words sunrise or sunset.
Page 62: “But there are others that cannot be counted because they cannot be counted, like the ripples in a pond when it rains. The Vanished People are like that at times, a single individual counting as many, and many coalescing into two or three. Or one. At such times it seemed to the man with the black sword that they stood between mirrors that they carried with them.” Facing mirrors is how Severian describes the devices allow travel among worlds, and the Vanished People can travel among worlds.
