Powerpuff Girls movie

Several people have told me that the Powerpuff Girls movie seems to be vanishing from the theaters, so I made a point of seeing it today at my local theater (which charges half price on Tuesdays and Thursdays). Pretty damn cool. In plot terms it wasn’t as good as the best episodes, but much better than the worst, about typical. In artistic terms it was really great seeing the girls on a big screen with a real budget behind them. The animation was much smoother than I’m used to from the show, with more detailed backgrounds, an actual sense of physical depth (which worked really oddly with the two-dimensional nature of the characters), and a generally much more enjoyable visual experience.

The action scenes were where the movie really takes off, both the girls’ devastating game of tag and the big crisis scene at the climax. I loved the various primate antics. Lots of fun, and probably too intense for very small kids.
