I was all set to do my laundry, bent over to pick up the basket — didn’t even pick it up, hadn’t touched it yet, just bent over — and something painful happened in my back, just above the left buttock. So I spent some time lying in bed, pretty much unable to move, and gradually recovered. I can now hobble around the apartment, go up and down stairs, even bend over and pick stuff up, but it still hurts, though not as much as earlier.

And my laundry is still undone.

Ouch. I'm sorry that you hurt your back. I've done similar damage with something simple like bending over, or sneezing a bit too hard, or walking off a curb and landing strangely on my foot. I second the advice given to rest as much as you can, take some anti-inflammatory of your choice, and after 48 hours, use some heat. First 48 hours cold is best for a recent injury. No more than 20 minutes at a time for cold or hot pack. I am glad to hear that you've recovered a lot of mobility and that the pain has lessened somewhat. Good luck on getting that laundry done. (hugs)
