Thanks for all the support about the weight thing, folks. The 284 was, indeed, a one-day fluctuation. Another thing that was really aggravating me yesterday was this poster I saw. In my gym, they’ve got this case where they put up posters from a series published to advertise stuff worker-outers would be interested in. The posters show various celebrities, and describe their workout regimens. The newest one showed some guy I’d never heard of, who looked like he was in great shape, and said that he lifted weights twice a week, and sometimes, when his schedule allowed, did some aerobic exercise once a week. And as far as food goes, he tries not to eat more than two pints of Häagen-Dazs in one day.
This is supposed to inspire me? I thought. Some guy works out less than I do, eats more, and still has muscles upon muscles? I’m supposed to feel motivated because of some statistical outlier with a freak metabolism? Then, of course, I figured it out. Muscles burn calories. Work on the muscles, let the muscles work on the fat. Though I think two pints of ice cream a day would make me sick. And that guy still probably has a somewhat freaky metabolism.
And I’ll still have to pay some attention to my food intake. Today I figured I’d step way off the nutrition plan, and went out to Flushing to join Q for all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet again. I was 20 minutes late to the meeting place, and didn’t see anyone, so I went to East Buffet and didn’t see anyone there either, so I figured maybe the plan had fallen through, that’s what I get for not RSVPing. So I had breakfast at a Japanese place on 41st Ave. that serves food and bubble tea and has a manga library in the basement. More carbs than I ought, but not as much as I’d have had at the buffet. The key thing is that for the first time in three weeks I’d let myself go three hours after waking before having breakfast. And for the first time in three weeks I had one of those amazing walking-dead drops in energy levels not too long after that. OK, I’ve learned my lesson.
