Today’s been a pretty mixed day emotionally. I dragged myself out to Times Square to get tickets for tonight’s showing of the Cowboy Bebop movie, but it was sold out (as had been last night’s premiere showing). Fuck. That was the only thing the Big Apple Anime Fest was showing that I was interested in (I think they were also showing Perfect Blue, which is really good, but I’ve seen it twice already), and missing out on it was enough to call down the depression that I now realize has been circling for the past day or two, looking for a place to land.

I went across the street to the Marriott, and wandered around the NY Anime Expo to see if I felt like registering. It was a near thing. There was an hour long line to get into the dealer’s (or “merchandise”) room, which offended my sensibilities. And there wasn’t all that much going in the video rooms that I was interested in. And I wasn’t running into any of the people I knew who were attending. But I knew that if I just went home I’d sit and mope and get nothing done and wind up feeling worse, so I regged for the weekend. I got to see a bit of Gatekeepers, and I spent way too much time in the artists’ room, bothering [livejournal.com profile] kuronekogirl, whose artwork is much cooler than the stuff she’s posted to her LiveJournal. We pen geeked for a bit, and I assured her that she’d get into SVA. There weren’t many artists in the artist room, but they were all good, getting my envy juices flowing. Must make art! Hulk paint puny humans!

On the way out I think I saw someone I met at the MoCCA festival, but she was past before I really realized it.

Where does it fit into the continuity of the series? I thought that was pretty much a closed book, or at least I find it hard to imagine fitting anything else into, around, or after it.

The timing of the movie, which I have seen thanks to working at Scarecrow Video, is very non-specific. So yes, probably some time during the series. It's pretty much a complete stand-alone sort of thing. I saw it before I really saw any of the episodes and was able to follow along with little trouble.

It's also really good.

So Av,if you're interested I can get you a region free copy of the DVD? We have them used at Scarecrow right now for about $15, new about $30. Let me know. ;)

It's a Chinese release. It has English subtitles that seemed pretty good to me. But not being a native speaker of Japanese, I can't say for sure. Then again, this is a far better release than the Chinese Big O release which had subtitles that were so confusing you needed subtitles just to understand the subtitles! I swear, there were whole conversations where I could only guess at the meaning. My favorite quote, that I can remember, was, "Run for the escape!!"

So not a fan dub, and the DVD is a normal high quality DVD. Oh, and it may be an import, but it is either region 1 or region 0 encoded, so it will play on US machines. I personally dislike dubs, even if the Cowboy Bebop ones are better than average. Just sounds wrong to me.

Hey,

The next time you want tickets for something like this, let me know a week or so in advance? I had a friend who lined up for them, and though I didn't get any, I could have gotten you one or more.

Sorry to hear what a bummer your weekend was. Wil and I went to GC last night at 11 to find an empty, locked room full of desks. Have you seen what they did to the space in Lerner?

*hugs*
