Our apartment building has a recurrent problem with leaks. As one of my neighbors joked, leaks are how we meet each other.

Tonight we discovered a leak in our bedroom, and I went upstairs to tell the guy above us about it. Turned out his bedroom ceiling was leaking, too, so we both went up another level to some neighbor I hadn’t met before. I knocked on the door, and then again, louder. Between the knocks I could hear someone talking from inside: “If you roll a seven, you get to decide who the robber attacks.” So when the door opened I introduced myself with “Sorry to interrupt your Settlers of Catan game, but…”.

Good thing it was Settler of Catan there were playing and not some weird Diceman-like decision making process you interrupted. That said you may have saved some random stranger from a robbery.

They were still in the explain-how-the-game-works stage. I don't think they'd even got the board set up.

They were everywhere in my life, until I married a non-gamer. I even joked about it at my brother's wedding. I told all his in-laws during the toast that I gave up gaming because I didn't want people mucking around in my imaginary worlds, and he thought games were more fun if he won money.

*giggle* Personally I hate Settlers of Catan, but it's a great story! ;)

I'm not very fond of the base game myself. Some of the variants are good, though.

I like the space version, but I admit that has little to do with the game parts of the game and more about shaking the space ship and doing funny voices.
