As late as Thursday night I was still vacillating over whether to make the trek up to Boston for [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia’s party, but the desire to be social won out and I’m oh-so-glad it did.

I got there a bit after 9 PM Friday (the bus trip having taken about an hour longer than scheduled), to find an apartment stuffed full with people, some few of whom I knew, but most of whom seemed familiar. Any SF fan who can remember the first time they stumbled upon SF fandom will recognize the feeling — This is my tribe! I hadn’t realized I was missing that feeling, and I wonder what changes have been going on in me, or NYC fandom, or both, to have caused it to fade. Maybe I just need to get out more. Anyway, I managed to be more social than usual, by my standards, which meant that I probably seemed only slightly shy rather than outright hermit-like to other folks. [livejournal.com profile] mamishka was there, partly at my urging, looking even more babe-a-licious than usual in her corset and revealing blouse. Cthulhia is way cool in person, and she and Mamishka hit it off real well real fast. I suspect I’ve unleashed something strange and wonderful on the world. I met many people, only a few of whose names have stuck with me. I’ll have to go back and refresh my memory sometime in the next few months.

I stayed over at Cthulhia’s, and on Saturday we went out with Mamishka for breakfast, hooking up with other locals by accident. Bits of conversation stick in my mind: computers, porn, computerized porn. Over to AndOr to hang out, watch Enterprise, and note how often the camera keeps the Vulcan babe’s spandex-coated butt in frame. Down to wake up Mamishka and play with magnets and gravity-sensitive lighting. Eventually over to another apartment (called “the Vatican”, I don’t know why) for another party. More great conversation and tasty snacks. My sparse knowledge of Greek mythology is sufficient to get me striking up a brief conversation with a pretty lass dressed as one of the Bacchantes, but my meagre social skills can’t manage the upgrade to actual flirtation. Stupid brain. Back to AndOr, where Mamishka’s staying, to hang out till Cthulhia gets back from the yet-another-party she’s gone off to.

Just relaxation today, and skull-carving. Mamishka came over to Cthulhia’s around noon, and Cthulhia dug up a bag of sugar (for tea) which turned out to have collectivized itself into a single massive non-cubical sugar cube, which some concerted effort managed to extract from the bag into a bowl. Tiny molded sugar skulls are a Dia de los Muertos tradition, so Mamishka and I went to work on something even better: a giant sculpted sugar skull! Eventually a giant sculpted sugar skull with racing stripes, a sinus drainage canal, and a heart. Photos were taken, the old-fashioned chemical kind, and Mamishka has the film, so I guess they’ll show up in her journal, if anywhere. Then off to a diner for lunch, and off on various missions, home for me. Just got in. Best time I’ve had months. Exhausted, not so much physically as emotionally.
