On the left, my driver’s license photo, taken sometime in the early ’90s. (NY State allows drivers to renew their licenses through the mail, and they just reuse the existing photo on file.)

On the right, my New York Sports Club ID photo, taken last week. Ears!

I was set to do a full weights workout today, but got to the gym late, so I just did treadmill. Then the treadmill broke down 40 minutes into a 45-minute workout! Gah! Well, that last five minutes doesn’t matter much, so I showered and stopped off at Tor to lend my copies of the second and third Finder TPBs to Patrick and Teresa. Teresa and I traded war stories (she told me about Pickett’s Charge, I told her about intra-building fighting in Chechnya), and I got to meet Ben Bova.

But why don't you smile for these photos? You look so somber! People who read your writings and see your picture will think you're an ax murderer in your spare time, or something.

I did smile, slightly, but I'm being shot from below, so the curvature of my face cancels it out.
